Bunggaditj Mara

“Bunggaditj Mara”  – meaning connected to two counties, Boandik Country and Gunditjmara Country.  Bunggaditj Mara is a respected Gunditjmara Boandik Elder. A well-known singer-songwriter and country and western star, you’ll travel Country with Uncle and see his traditional homelands.

In 1972, Bunggaditj Mara wrote the Maralinga song – it tells the story of British atomic testing in outback Australia in the 1950s. His stories and songs will describe the colonial impact to Country and its peoples. You’ll hear about his father’s legacy as a soldier in WWI and Bunggaditj Mara’s continuous fight for recognition of Indigenous soldiers.

With over 30 years experience in tourism, Bunggaditj Mara hopes that each visitor leaves Country with more knowledge and understanding of the history of Aboriginal peoples. We ask that visitors come with a curiosity to learn from the world’s oldest living culture.

These stories will be told in the rugged south west Victorian landscape where the old trees tell stories and the creeks reveal the resilience of it’s First Peoples.
